The City of London has just announced a renewal of its popular HOme Ownership Assistance Program  which assists renters to get into affordable housing by helping with an interest free down payment.  People at least 18 years of age with a gross household income of less than $ 55,000 who are buying a house up to a value of $ 145,000 may qualify.  The program provides interest free loans for a 5 % down payment and can also assist with closing costs.

Condo sales in November 2011 were soft compared to a very hot condo market a year ago.  Homes in London are still very affordable compared to homes in other cities in Canda.  The average home in London sells for about $ 230,000 whiile the most popular style of home, the two storey on average is selling for about $325,000.  For a detailed report check out the following link:

Many people use the realtor.ca (mls.ca) website to look for property.  While this is a good way to look for property anywhere in Canada, there is an even better way to direct your search for a local London home or rental property.  I have added a search utility on my homepage which gives you direct access to listings of property in this area.  This means you will only see locally listed properties plus you will have up to date listings as well.  It normally takes a day or two for a newly listed property to hit the realtor.ca site.  Our direct access to the London and St. Thomas source of listings will give you direct and immediate access to what is locally available.

The local London and St. Thomas real estate board produces monthly reports on housing sales in the area.  These reports are very helpful in getting an idea of how the real estate market is doing locally.  It gives information about the number of sales and the number of new homes for sale by locaiton and by category of home or property being sold. 

Sales in the area have been in the balanced range for a number of months.
